Aswan University maintains its superiority in the British Times Ranking of emerging universities for 2024

Aswan University president Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman announced that the results of the British Times Ranking, in its new edition for the year 2024, confirmed the global distinction of Aswan University in the index of scientific research quality, as Aswan University ranked second place at the level of local universities out of a total of 1,171 universities at the level of the world is less than 50 years.

Prof. Ayman Othman added that maintaining the summit is more difficult than reaching it, and that the continuation of Aswan University for the sixth year in a row is considered a global distinction in the international Ranking.

Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Aziz, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research and Supervisor of the University’s Ranking Office, added that Aswan University ranked second locally in the Times World Ranking of Emerging Universities for the year 2024. This came according to the announcement of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research about the progress of 28 Egyptian universities in the Times Ranking for emerging universities, according to its edition issued this year, the British Times Ranking of emerging universities under 50 years uses 18 performance indicators grouped in five main categories: research quality 30%, teaching 29.5%, research environment 29%, international reputation 7.5%, Industry 4%.

This year’s version of the Ranking has undergone fundamental changes and revisions in the Ranking methodology. Despite these reviews, which in turn affected various universities, and Aswan University is not an exception, Aswan University maintained its presence among the first-class universities, and despite the superiority and excellence in the scientific research quality index, there is some decline in the general Ranking for several reasons, the most important of which are global competitiveness and modernization of Ranking methodology and standards to move from 13 standards to 18 to include new standards that the classifier considers to be more transparent, comprehensive and balanced. For example, the Research Strength criterion, the impact of citations (FWCI) is calculated after excluding the highest percentage of 25% of the most cited research from the total published research for an institution, so that the remaining 75% of the most cited research is calculated, in order to measure the strength of the total published research and exclude the influence of a group of Research with very high citations.

Orabi explained that this global distinction in the scientific research quality index would not have been achieved without the dedication of researchers and scientists at Aswan University, whose unwavering commitment led to this wonderful achievement. We must constantly work to improve the overall rating.

The Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research congratulated all the university’s staff, including Academic staff, students, and all university leaders. Thanks and appreciation are extended to the distinguished researchers in all scientific specializations at the university, who are working to raise the university’s name in international and regional forums, and all the employees and affiliates of Aswan University.
