Aswan University included among 51 Egyptian Universities in the Webometrics Global Ranking for Research Citations

   Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Aziz Mehallal Orabi_ Vice President of Aswan University, announced that Aswan University has been included among 51 Egyptian universities in the Webometrics global ranking for research citations. This ranking evaluates universities based on their websites and the citation rates of internationally published scientific research, utilizing Google Scholar. This announcement came during the results of the July 2024 edition.

   Prof. Ayman Osman_Aswan University President, praised the continuous progress the university is achieving in international rankings, reflecting the efforts made to enhance the research system and the emphasis on international publication of research.

   For his part, Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Aziz Mehallal_ Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, stated that the Webometrics ranking is an initiative from the Cybermetrics Lab affiliated with CSIC, one of the leading research institutions in Spain. This ranking is the largest in terms of the number of higher education institutions analyzed for participation.

    Prof. Mohamed added that the Webometrics methodology relies on a combination of factors, including general shared knowledge from Ahrefs Majestic (50%), the impact of the university’s website content, the number of researchers with the highest citations in Google Scholar (10%), and the number of research papers listed among the top 10% cited in the Scimago database over the five years preceding the assessment year (40%).

   Prof. Abdel-Aziz Mehallal dedicated this new ranking, which adds to the university’s portfolio of scientific and global Rankings, to Dr. Ayman Osman, the university president, and to the Aswan University staff, including researchers and scholars across various scientific disciplines.

   In the same context, Dr. Omar Abo zaid_ responsible for the ranking office, emphasized that improving Aswan University’s position among local, regional, and global universities in various global ranking systems aligns with the national strategy for higher education and scientific research, which prioritizes international references and achieving global competitiveness standards for Egyptian educational and research institutions.
